“Almost always a sex worker starts because of a friend or because she was a child who has been sexually abused or she has a very bad husband. To me, all three of these happened. ”

- Jaqueline Montero, former prostituted woman in the Dominican Republic

Many of the women we serve are able to heal and recover in our day program with the job, education and counsel ing we provide at the Mercy Workshop. But some need 24-hour care in a residential setting. They need rest, safety and healing from the trauma and abuse they encountered.

THE PALOMA HOUSE IS READY TO RECEIVE WOMEN

In 2023, Mercy opened the doors of a home in order to receive women in need of 24- hour care. Help us provide for those inside:

  • $1850 a month covers caregivers’ salaries, transportation, food, and utilities in the home (serving 4-8 women)

  • LONG TERM PLANS: The Paloma Project in San Pedro - A Total of $88,000

    • $20,000 per apartment

    • $2,000 to furnish each apartment

This beautiful painting, hanging in the Paloma house as a reminder ‘YOU ARE STRONG',” was painted by artist, Sonya Thompson as a reminder to the residents of that truth. They are strong.

For a donation of $50 or more to the Paloma Project we will send you a 10x13 print of this painting to remind you of these women and that same truth!
